Brazil 2020 – Spotlight on Northeast Hotels

Promising beach hotels in the Northeast for 2020

For quite some time, travelers heading to the Northeast of Brazil have generally had to fly all the way to Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo before then taking an onward flight to their chosen destination, making the journey even more exhausting. Luckily for us, some airlines have decided to create a bit of a northeastern hub so that it’s easier and quicker to get to this beautiful and less-visited part of Brazil. We’re very happy to share the list of the main direct flights with you, below:

Miami / Salvador – MIA Airport (LATAM)
Miami / Fortaleza – MIA Airport (LATAM)
Miami / Recife – MIA Airport (LATAM)

In order to make the most of these international flights we have put together a list of new beach hotels in the region. Whilst they haven’t all been inspected by us yet, we are confident that they present excellent options for our clients.

Carmel Taiba

Taíba is a small fishing village less than 75km from Fortaleza Airport, which in recent years has become very popular among Europeans. There are a lot of French people here in particular, and there is even an Escargot Festival which takes place between the months of August and September. The region has a calm and welcoming atmosphere, and Carmel Taíba Exclusive Resort has opened with the aim of providing clients with the absolute best in service and style in this lovely laid-back location.

With a unique design and great attention to detail, the resort’s architecture blends with the landscape, rising up above the cliff and out over the sea. There are 36 elegant villas available which have been designed to guarantee comfort and luxury, even for a family of six sharing. Most of the villas have an ocean view and private pool, except for Villa Renda (no ocean views) and Villa Passaro (no pool).

The hotel also boasts two haute cuisine restaurants, a pool bar, SPA by Caudalie, fitness center, children’s area and a helipad. As it’s located just an hour and a half by car from Fortaleza airport, we think it will be a great option to break up the long car transfer between Fortaleza and Jericoacoara.

Hotel Pedra De Patacho

HOTEL PEDRA DE PATACHO

Located in the middle of the Alagoas Ecological Route, Pedra de Patacho stands out for its wide strip of white sand beach, warm waters and practically untouched vegetation. It is about a 2 hour drive from Maceió Airport and 3 hours from Recife Airport. The hotel’s concept is to use the local nature in tune with modernity, incorporating bold elements (such as stone, wood and Corten steel) into the surrounding landscape and giving life to a unique architectural identity.

The hotel offers 15 accommodations divided into 5 categories, some of which have a private pool. The total area of the property is 8,500 square meters and 11 private villas are also due to be built. They will have between 2 and 4 rooms and will be available to rent. We think Pedra de Patacho will work really well for people seeking privacy, comfort and stunning nature in a less well-known Brazilian destination.

Barracuda Beach Hotel

Located atop the hill at Resende Beach in Itacaré, Barracuda Beach Hotel is about one hour and 40 minutes from Ilhéus (IOS) Airport and less than 10 min walk from the heart of this popular little village. The hotel has 17 suites divided into two categories, all featuring ocean views. One has capacity for four guests.

The hotel only opened their doors to the public in the middle of January 2020 and they are still operating on a soft opening basis. Work on the beach bar and spa is still being finished and is expected to be completed by the end of March. In the same complex as the hotel there are also 12 ocean view villas with between 4 and 6 rooms. The villas are privately owned but it will still be possible to rent them. We’ll be inspecting the hotel in March, after which we’ll send our final thoughts about the property.

BAÍA DAS CARAÚBAS

Baía das Caraúbas

Baía das Caraúbas lies on a deserted beach surrounded by dunes. It’s about a one hour and 30 minute buggy ride from Jericoacoara. The concept for this venture was to create a calm place for people to recharge their batteries on the soft sands of a virgin beach, whilst still providing the opportunity for guests to get their adrenaline pumping by kitesurfing in this magical location.

The development is made up of five distinct spaces that are far enough away from each other so as not to disturb the personal privacy of each guest. Suspended on stilts and facing out to sea, the bungalows are built out of wood and covered with carnauba straw. The hotel’s 80,000m2 property also has a dining room, bar/lounge and seating areas that are constructed over the water. The bungalows on offer are for two or four people and the hotel has a maximum capacity of 19, keeping the atmosphere both peaceful and exclusive. The daily rates are on a full-board basis and include breakfast/brunch, with plenty of variety to be a great alternative to lunch, as well as snacks available throughout the day and dinner. Baía das Caraúbas’ guests are first welcomed at the company’s hotel Casa de San José in Camocim. From here they are then taken by buggies to their beach bungalows, as access to Baía das Caraúbas is only possible by driving along the beach. On departure, guests are taken back to Casa de San José.

Hotel Kuara

The word ‘kuara’ means sun in the Tupi language. It is with this idea of light, nature and rusticity that Kuara presents its concept of lodging on Pitinga Beach in Arraial D’Ajuda, a village located just 20 minutes along the coast from trendy Trancoso. Every little detail has been thought of to translate the beauty and warmth of Brazil into the hotel’s design, including contemporary crafted wood, handmade soapstone dishes and lightshades created by the hands of native artisans. David Guerra’s architectural project embraces the environment and he has preserved the native flora in the landscaping project. Additionally, a Degraded Area Recovery Plan was implemented when the work began, which includes the hotel having its own water and sewage treatment plants.

The 46 suites look very comfortable and pretty similar to each other, differing only in location and size (the largest being a huge 136 m²). The Trussardi bed linen and L’Occitane amenities were chosen to offer exclusivity and an espresso coffee machine is available in all rooms. The hotel features volcanic rock pools with sea views, integrated infinity and hydro pools, and an adjacent children’s pool. Also on offer are tennis courts, a L’Occitane Spa with revitalizing treatments, a steam room with sea view, a restaurant with a winery and parrilla grill, a fitness center and helipad. We think this will be a good option to offer to guests who are visiting the Discovery Coast and would prefer to stay somewhere more affordable than Trancoso.
